The Night Heron Speakeasy

The Night Heron Speakeasy ran for 7-weeks in a water tower atop a dilapidated building in Chelsea, Manhattan. Admission was by gift from a friend who had attended themselves. Hundreds of people passed through in a chain of mystery and generosity. Not one person spilled the secret until the speakeasy was closed.
The crowd on a recent evening (six couples) included the owner of two gay night clubs; a twenty-five-year-old Dutch gallery worker, who had brought her roommate as a birthday present; and a young couple from Hoboken. “We have a seven-month-old, and this is the first time we’ve gotten a babysitter,” the woman said, looking a little dazed. –The New Yorker
